Well, the Christmas break is over and the winter sports will be picking up starting this week.
There were a few games over the Christmas break for the area teams, but after the calendar was flipped to January on Sunday, things will heat up in all of the sports.
Conference tournaments will be held for teams this month, along with some classics for other teams.
The first conference tournament will happen this weekend. The Big East Conference Tournament for the boys will start on Thursday with four games.
Chester will host the Thursday and Friday games; the action on Saturday will move to Garretson.
January is a cold month, so it is a good thing that the sporting action stays inside and will start heating up with several good games and matches taking place.

Larry Leeds was born and raised in South Dakota, graduating from Colman High School in 1974. He continued his education at USD/Springfield and Dakota State University and received a bachelor's degree in physical education and history in 1979. He later obtained a journalism degree from South Dakota State University.
Before coming to Madison, Leeds worked at weekly papers in Flandreau, St. James, Minn., Redfield and Hayti (Hamlin County Publishing with Castlewood and Estelline).
