After a brief summer vacation, the fall sports got off to a bang. The other fall high school sport for area teams that I have yet to witness is boys golf for Madison.

Last weekend, I had a taste of just about everything. There was high school tennis early in the afternoon as Madison split a triangular with Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Sioux Falls Lincoln.

Following a picture or two, I went across the street for the Ag Bowl tailgate party and the football game between Dakota State University and Dakota Wesleyan University -- and enjoyed it a lot.

Then came Friday. High school cross country started the afternoon for me at the Madison Country Club as the athletes braved the windy and humid conditions.

Later that night, it was back up to Trojan Field for almost a quarter of the high school game between Madison and Milbank. It was the first time I have been involved with a suspended game, which will be finished Monday night.

My schedule still wasn't over for the weekend. There was a high school volleyball game on Saturday afternoon between the Madison Lady Bulldogs and the Dakota Valley Panthers, a rematch of the Class A championship match from 2016.

Sunday was a day of rest for me. Talking about get hit by a double-barreled shot! That was how the fall sports season kicked off for me.

It should be more calm as the year goes along...I hope.
