The Madison City Commission approved a change request affecting a renovation project currently underway at The Community Center that will improve the air-handling system at the fitness center.

Aaron Walter, Community Center director, said the improvement project was about 80 percent to 90 percent complete to upgrade four air-handling units. The units are intended to help control the climate at the fitness center’s swimming pool, locker rooms, gym and other parts of the building.

The city’s share is expected to amount to $7,348. Madison shares the expenses for maintaining The Community Center with Dakota State University.

City officials will spend money from a Community Center maintenance/repair reserve fund, which is maintained by Madison, to help pay for the change order expenses.

The total project cost for the upgrades at The Community Center currently amount to $132,000 with the city paying about $79,000 and DSU paying $53,000.
