The members of the Madison School Board approved on Monday a proposal from city of Madison officials to hold a joint city-school district election later this spring.

The current terms of office are due to expire during 2016 for school board members Tom Farrell, Ryan Hegg and Charlie Moore. Madison Mayor Roy Lindsay Jr. will also have his term of office expire this year.

During their first meeting of 2016, the city commissioners approved an April 12 election date.

Interested individuals can start circulating nominating petitions for the city-school board election on Jan. 29. Those completed petitions have a Feb. 26 deadline for filing.

The school board members also approved the acceptance of a Clean Diesel grant of $20,600 that the Madison public schools can use to help purchase a new school bus.
