The Madison City Commission authorized the signing of two agreements on Monday that will provide 95 percent of the funding needed to help the construction of a new parallel taxiway at the Madison City Airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration sent Mayor Roy Lindsay a letter on Aug. 19 that provided the federal government’s grant offer for funding the construction project. The grant offer included funding for taxiway design, the taxiway lighting system, and wetland mitigation.

The federal grant is intended to pay for 90 percent of those expenses.

The South Dakota Department of Transportation also asked Lindsay to sign a second agreement that will provide another 5 percent of the funding for the city airport project.

Madison is expected to pay the remaining 5 percent of the project expenses.
