The Madison City Commission approved an April 12 election date on Monday for voting related to a new term for city mayor, due to the fact that Mayor Roy Lindsay’s three-year term winds down in 2016.

Lindsay is currently serving his first term as Madison’s mayor and says that he’s ready to serve a second, if that’s what the residents want.

“I’m interested,” Lindsay said “I’m enjoying it.”

Jennifer Eimers, city finance officer, said that interested parties can start circulating candidate’s petitions on Jan. 29. The candidates need to return the completed nominating petitions by 5 p.m. on Feb. 26.

Eimers said that she was informed by school district officials that three Madison School Board seats are up for election this year. The city will ask Madison Central School District Officials if they want to hold a joint election this spring.
