There are two conferences well represented at the State A and B Volleyball Tournaments this year in Rapid City.

There are four teams from the Big East Conference at the tournament, along with three teams from the Dakota XII Conference.

Three of the Big East Conference teams are in the State A Tournament: McCook Central/Montrose, Parker and Sioux Valley. The fourth team from the Big East Conference is in the State B Tournament: Chester.

All three teams from the Dakota XII Conference are in the State A

Tournament: Madison, Dakota Valley and Sioux Falls Christian.

During the first day of competition on Thursday, the Dakota XII Conference teams flexed their muscles with all three teams winning first-round matches.

All of the teams from the Big East Conference playing in the Class A Tournament suffered setbacks.

There will be at least one Dakota XII Conference team to reach the championship match; Sioux Falls Christian will face Madison in one of the semifinal matches on Friday night.

The other Big East Conference team playing in the State B tournament, the Chester Lady Flyers, picked up a first-round win and will face Warner in a semifinal match.

These two conferences are showing the whole state just how powerful they are.
