On Sunday, April 28, 2019 Carol Jeanette (Duxbury) Olesen was called home to rest with the Lord at the age of 74 surrounded by her children.

Carol Jeanette Duxbury was born to Russell and Mary (Williams) Duxbury at Madison, South Dakota on May 9, 1944. She grew up on the family farm near Canova, South Dakota, graduating from high school in 1961. Carol was baptized in the Congregational Church at Canova where she later married Loren Olesen on September 4, 1963.

Carol worked for many years in Madison as a nurse's assistant and telephone operator before committing herself full-time to raising a family. She later attended South Dakota State University and achieved a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in May of 1992. After college graduation, Carol taught at both the high school and college levels, retiring from teaching in 2006. Beyond family and teaching, Carol's lifetime passions were dolls, doll houses and needlepoint.

She is survived by her five children, Gail (Don) Jacobsma of rural Arlington, Leland (Tammy) Olesen of Belle Chasse, Louisiana, Lauren (David) Nelson of Yankton, Lynn (Janelle) Olesen of Lawton, Iowa and Carrie (Don) Hodges of Clinton, Kansas; fifteen grandchildren; one great-grandson and two great-granddaughters; and two sisters; Nancy (Kenneth) Stanga and Kathy Welchert, both of Sioux Falls, SD.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Loren Olesen; both parents, Russell and Mary Duxbury; and two granddaughters, Katie and Claire Nelson.

Funeral services for Mrs. Olesen will be at 10:00 am on Friday, May 3, 2019 at the Sinai Lutheran Church with Pastor David Schoeld officiating. Burial will be in the Arlington City Cemetery. Carol's family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials should be given to the Veterans Memorial at Arlington, SD.

The Johnson-Henry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
