The Lake County Relay for Life will be held on June 14 at the 4-H grounds in Madison. This year, two cancer survivors will be honored: local veterinarian Tom Heirigs and preschooler Gabe Gitzen.

The community is invited to honor survivors and lead the fight for a world without cancer.

The motto for the event is "One Community, One Night, One Fight." Seven teams are signed up for the annual fund-raiser.

Teams can begin to register and set up at 4:30 p.m., but the opening ceremony will not begin until 5:30 p.m. The silent auction will be held from 5-8 p.m. The meal fund-raiser will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

The opening ceremony will begin with a moment of silence for those who have been lost during the past year. Following an opening prayer, the national anthem will be sung by Micah Nelson. The Relay for Life Shining Star Award will also be presented during the opening ceremony.

The first lap will be a survivor lap; the second will be a caregiver lap.

At 6:30 p.m., the relay team will be introduced, photographed and make a lap. At 7 p.m., the survivor dessert reception will be held.

Other 7 p.m. activities include a visit by Lake County Deputy Grant Lanning and his drug dog, Rocco; bingo; and a performance by Kelli Wollmann. At 7:30 p.m., a scavenger hunt and chicken poop bingo will start, as will a performance by CC Graham.

At 8 p.m., raffle drawing and silent auction items will be announced. At 8:15 p.m., Matt Green will perform.

The Remember luminaria ceremony will begin at 9:30 p.m. and the Fight Back Ceremony will begin at 10:45 p.m.
