Officers with the Madison Police Department and agents with the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation took two males into custody on Friday during a "high risk stop" conducted on a vehicle pulled over in downtown Madison.

Arrests were made by law-enforcement officers on the 100 block of N.W. 2nd St., an area where the Madison Discount Liquor convenience store is located. Police personnel provided information via email that authorities knew the vehicle was occupied by a 17-year-old male who was wanted for escape from custody.

The police reported that the juvenile male was identified as a known gang member, was possibly armed and previously charged with homicide. The juvenile and another man in the vehicle were taken into custody without incident.

Law-enforcement officers also arrested Devin Batiste, 22, of Omaha, Neb., who was wanted on felony warrants for child abuse/neglect.
