MHS boys claim region title, girls finish second

The Madison Bulldogs boys' track team won the Region 2A title while the girls placed second in the team standings.

Madison scored 173 points to top the field in the boys' division. Following the Bulldogs were Hamlin 151, Sioux Valley 117, Deuel 79, Flandreau 51 and Florence-Henry 10.

Madison had three individual winners and one relay team bringing home first-place medals from Hayti in the boys' division.

Mickale Dohrer won the 1600-meter run in 4:56.80.

Senior Caileb Reilly won the 300-meter hurdles in 43.10 seconds.

Madison went 1-2-3 in the pole vault, led by Ammon Hawkes. He cleared 12-feet-10 to claim the title in Madison on Tuesday afternoon.

The foursome of Carter Bergheim, Evan Appelwick, Mason Avery and Reilly crossed the finish line in first place in the 1600-meter relay in 3:42.40.

In the girls' division, Madison racked up 145 points and trailed only the host Hamlin Chargers, who scored 165 points.

Following the top two teams were Flandreau 117, Sioux Valley 62, Deuel 53 and Florence-Henry 41.

Madison had two individual winners and two winning relay teams.

Ellie Keller won the 3200-meter run in 12:21.80.

With a leap of 15-10.75, Morgan Anderson won the long jump.

The foursome of Anderson, Kylie Krusemark, Abby Brooks and Kendra Leighton crossed the finish line in first in the 1600-meter relay in 4:20.90.

Gors, Maddie Gerry, Kate Comes and Ally Sahr teamed up to win the medley relay in 4:37.10.

Madison will go to Tea for the first day of the State Track Meet on May 24 and then to Sioux Falls for the final day on May 25.
