Madison boys win title at Brace-Hopfinger Meet

The Madison boys' track and field team won the team title at the Brace-Hopfinger Invitational on Tuesday in Volga. The meet was shortened due to inclement weather.

Madison finished with 62.50 points to claim the title. Following the Bulldogs were Dell Rapids 55, Webster 52, Clark/Willow Lake 50, Hamlin 43, Deuel 33.50, Sioux Valley 30, Deubrook 26.50, Elkton-Lake Benton 19, Sunshine Bible Academy 19, Great Plains Lutheran 18.50, Castlewood 15 and Flandreau 4.

Madison had one first-place finisher. Mickale Dohrer won the 1600-meter run in 5:01.04.

Caileb Reilly placed second in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.16 seconds.

In the girls' division, Madison placed fifth in the team standings with 38 points. Winning the team title was Dell Rapids with 67 points. Following the Quarriers were Hamlin 59.50, Deubrook 51, Flandreau 44, Madison 38, Webster 37, Great Plains Lutheran 33.50, Sioux Valley 18, Sunshine Bible Academy 14, Castlewood 13, Deuel 8, Elkton-Lake Benton 6, Clark/Willow Lake 1.

Madison had one individual first-place finisher and one relay team that placed first. With a toss of 94-feet-3, Briana Steuerwald won the discus throw.

Maddie Gerry, Kylie Krusemark, Kendra Leighton and Morgan Anderson won the 800-meter relay in 1:55.09.

The Bulldogs also had one individual who broke a state qualifying standard. With a leap of 4-10, Emily VanLiere placed second in the high jump and qualified for next month's State Track Meet.

Madison will go to Lennox on Thursday for the Oriole Invitational.
