C-E Hawks place third, Chester ties for fourth

The Colman-Egan girls placed third while Chester's girls tied for fourth in the Class B Track and Field Meet which concluded on Saturday at Howard Wood Field.

Colman-Egan got three first-place finishes and ended with 53 points. Winning the team title was Deubrook with 76 points.

Rounding out the top 14 teams were Ispwich 67, Colman-Egan 53, White River 38, Chester 38, Andes Central/Dakota Christian 34, New Underwood 32, Gayville-Volin 30, Avon 29, Estelline-Hendricks 29, Sulley Buttes 27, Kimball/White Lake 24, Corsica-Stickney 22, Newell 21 and Dell Rapids St. Mary 21.

Howard finished the meet with seven points.

Gaining wins for Colman-Egan were Josie Mousel, Olivia Baumberger and the 400-meter relay team. Mousel won the high jump with a leap of 5-feet-04. Baumberger won the long jump with a leap of 16-10.

Baumberger, Elizabeth Moore, Daniela Lee and Mousel won the 400-meter relay in 51.50 seconds.

Chester finished second in three events. Makenna Larson was second in the 100-meter dash in 12.39 seconds -- just .005 of a second behind the first-place finisher, Caelyn Valandra-Prue of White River.

Larson was second in the 200-meter dash in 25.64 seconds --  which is a school record and just .04 of a second in back of Prue again.

Jennilee Hoyer, Cami Streff, Karly Campbell and Larson placed second in the 1600-meter relay with a school record of 4:11.66.

Streff added two fifth-place finishes for Chester. She was fifth in the 800-meter in 2:25.72 -- the second fastest time in school history -- and she was fifth in the 1600-meter run in 5:36.11.

Chester was 15th in the team standings in the boys' division with 18 points. Colman-Egan had five points.

Chester had a pair of relay teams that placed fourth. The foursome of Alex VanEgdom, Jarett Sengelman, Alex Tammen and Isaiah Young was fourth in the 400-meter relay in 45.77 seconds.

VanEgdom, Tammen, Aden Baumberger and Young were fourth in the 800-meter relay in 1:35.37.

"The Flyers had a very successful season," said Chester Coach Misty Larson. "We established four new school records this year. Makenna Larson (100), Makenna Larson (200), the medley relay team and the 1600-meter relay."

Other team members for Chester were Jordan Campbell, Nathan Gerry, Jovi Wolf, Hanna Reiff, Hannah Nelson, Jadon Wages and Josie Baumberger.
