Bulldogs improve to 4-2 with three blowout wins

The Madison Bulldogs club baseball team was unbeaten in a three-game home series with Sioux Valley and Elkton-Lake Benton this past weekend.

Madison topped Elkton-Lake Benton 13-1 and 13-0 on Sunday afternoon at Baughman-Belatti Field.

In the opening game on Sunday, Aspen Dahl fired a no-hitter and the Bulldogs won 13-0. Dahl had 12 strikeouts and walked just two batters.

Madison had seven hits. Evan Appelwick smacked a double and had one RBI. Zach Whitlock had a pair of hits and three RBIs. Ty Jorgenson had two hits and one RBI. Other Bulldogs who had one hit were Dahl and Tyler Tappe.

Tappe had a pair of RBIs while Dahl, Logan Albee and Brock Minnaert each had one RBI.

In the nightcap, Madison built a 13-0 lead before Elkton-Lake Benton got on the board in the fourth inning. Neither team scored in the fifth and Madison won by the 10-run mercy rule.

Madison had five hits. Colby Mennis hit a double, a single and had one RBI. Other Bulldogs to get a hit were Seth Fernau, Ben Lester and Minnaert. Lester had two RBIs and Fernau had one RBI.

Ashton Nills picked up the win as he worked three innings. He gave up one hit, struck out six and gave up one walk.

Riley Kearin tossed the last two innings and gave up one run on one hit. He struck out four and walked two.

Madison 16, Sioux Valley 0

Behind the strong pitching performance of Tappe, the Bulldogs rolled to a 16-0 win over the Sioux Valley on Friday night.

Tappe fired a no-hitter and picked up the win. He struck out 10 and walked three.

Madison pounded out 10 hits in the five-inning contest. Whitlock had three hits and four RBIs. Tappe had two hits and four RBIs.

Other Bulldogs to get a hit were Albee, Dahl, Appelwick and Ryley Uthe. Albee had three RBIs while Dahl, Appelwick, Kearin, Minnaert and Mitch Williams each had one RBI.

Madison (4-2) will go to Miller on Friday to face Wolsey-Wessington-Miller-Highmore at 6 p.m.

Madison will go to Wessington Springs for a doubleheader against Wessington Springs-Sanborn Central-Woonsocket on Sunday with the first game starting at 2 p.m.
