The Madison Broncos won a wild game to begin the 2019 amateur baseball season on Thursday night at Flynn Field in Madison. The Broncos held on for a 6-5 win over the Sioux Falls Saints in a non-league contest.

The Saints had a chance to knot the score at 6-6 in the top of the ninth inning, when a throw got past Madison catcher Jon Waba. Sioux Falls scored once in the fifth, only to see the Broncos answer in the bottom of the inning. With one on and two outs, Josh Giles smacked a double to drive in Lakin Neugebauer for the third run for Madison.

Madison stretched its lead to 5-1 in the sixth frame with one swing of the bat. With one on and no outs, Greg Biagi blasted a home run over the left-center fence.

Sioux Falls scored four times in the seventh frame to deadlock the score at 5-5.

Christiansen put down the Saints in order in the eighth inning.

Madison had nine hits off four Saints hurlers. Biagi had a home run and two RBIs. Josh Giles had a double, a single and two RBIs. Trevor Johnson had two singles. Nick Bird, Marcus Vanden Bosch and Brock Selgestad each had a single. Bird and Burpee each had an RBI.
