Jankord's grand slam propels Post 25 to 8-2 victory

Jack Jankord's grand slam broke open the game for Madison Post 25, which earned an 8-2 win against Volga Post 114 on Monday at Flynn Field in Madison.

Trailing 2-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, Post 25 used two walks and a hit batsman to load the bases. Jankord then stepped to the plate.

With a one-and-one count, Jankord sent a Noah Puetz offering over the right-field fence for a grand slam and gave Madison a 5-2 advantage.

Madison's Justin Casanova opened the fifth inning with a double and later scored on a pass ball. Without a hit, Madison tacked on two more runs in the sixth frame.

Madison had opened the scoring in the third inning. With one out, Tyler Tappe singled and later scored on a Casanova double to make the score 1-0.

Volga answered in the top of the fourth, scoring twice with the big hit an RBI single by Aiden Tisdall.

Madison had five hits off two Volga hurlers. Jankord belted his grand slam and had four RBIs. Casanova had two doubles and an RBI. Colby Mennis had a double. Tappe added one single.

Volga had four hits in the contest with Puetz having two singles.

Taylor Hojer started on the mound for Madison and worked 3 2/3 innings. He gave up two runs on two hits, struck out four and walked three. Brock Minnaert finished on the hill and picked up the win. He worked 3 1/3 innings and didn't allow a run. He gave up two hits, struck out three and walked one.

Puetz started for Volga and suffered the loss. He worked four innings and gave up five runs, allowed three hits, struck out four and walked two. Colby Olauson worked two innings and gave up three runs. He allowed two hits, struck out one and walked four.

Madison (3-2) will go to Garretson on Monday.
