The Northern Bull Riding Tour visited Prairie Village on Friday night with 14 cowboys trying to ride a bull provided by Bierema Rodeo, Inc.

Only two riders were able to stay on the bull for the full eight seconds during the opening round. Dawson Petrik of Wagner scored an 84 on his bull; Dylan Rice of Flandreau scored a 69 on his bull.

No rider was able to stay on the bull during the second round.

The four top riders advanced to the short round. Riley Page of Colton and Miles Englebert of Burdock made it to the short round by their scores. Rice and Petrik made it to the short round as they had full rides.

None of the four riders stayed on their bulls during the short round. Petrik, who had the most points, got on the bounty bull with a chance to pocket extra money, but Black Smoke had nothing doing with that as Petrik couldn't stay on.

Petrik, a 20-year-old cowboy, has been riding for two years.

"A buddy of mine got me started riding bulls," he said. "I have been breaking horses for Fischer Farms for a while."

This was the first time Petrik has been at the Prairie Village event.

After the first three cowboys didn't stay on their bulls during the second round and the short round, Petrik knew he had won the event.

"I never thought about it that much," he said. "I love riding bulls. I was going to give 110 percent on my short-round ride bull and on the bounty bull."

With his ride at Prairie Village, Petrik will be heading to the Northern Bull Riding Tour finals later this year.
