Teacher's last wish warms Head Start students

When longtime Head Start substitute teacher Kandi Werner died in November, her wish was that in lieu of flowers, mourners donate hats, gloves and coats to the Madison area Head Start so her friends there would be warm in the winter. Showing off their new hats and gloves are (back, left) Donavan Eichacker, Kellan Frye, Laika Klein, Weston Hanneman, Kaylee Raymer, Autumn Bettelyoun, Oliver Martin, Jaelynn Green, Jayse Williams, (middle) Andrew Agalakotuwa, Anja Thorson, Isis Banks, Adalynn Hayden, Tae Sean Howard, Dayeyza Santay-Colon, Tanya Basyal and Deklan Boyer. On the floor from the left are Theia Matte, Harper Waba, Judah Hanneman, Dejah Banks, Maya Bickett, Cherysh Woldt, Charlie Jo Armentrout, Jaxson Liesinger, Christopher Gomez-Amezola, Farron Wise Spirit and Mikael Sansavour. Werner's friends and relatives donated 15 coats, 10 pairs of snowpants and 100 pairs of mittens and hats. In addition to the Head Start students, warm clothes were also given to students in Early Head Start and home-based Early Head Start.
