Madison firefighters were called to a residence on the south side of the city on Sunday afternoon to extinguish a grass fire.

Fire Chief Randy Minnaert reported that three fire trucks were sent at 2:40 p.m. to a residence on the 900 block of S. Union Ave. to put out a small grass fire. Minnaert said the fire had crept onto the property after it started on the property of a neighborhood salvage yard.

Minnaert said firefighters believe that the fire started from a cutting torch that was used in the salvage yard.

The only reported fire damage was burned grass. No injuries were reported from the fire call.

The firefighters returned to the fire station at 3:15 p.m.
