County commission hears budget requests

The Lake County Commission will meet into the afternoon

hours on Tuesday as commissioners continue to receive budget

requests for the next fiscal year. The regular meeting will

begin at 9 a.m. on June 18 in the commission meeting room of

the Lake County Courthouse.

Commissioners will hear requests from East Dakota Transit,

Valiant Living, Prairie Village, Community Counseling

Services, the Smith-Zimmermann Museum, and the food pantry.

In addition, the following county budgets will be

introduced: register of deeds, welfare and zoning, buildings

and grounds, community health nurse and WIC, highway

department, and commission.

In other business, the county will consider a temporary malt

beverage license application from the Chester Volunteer Fire

Department, utility occupancy applications from Sioux Valley

Energy, an agreement between the county and Architecture

Incorporated, personnel issues from Director of Equalization

Rick Becker and Sheriff Tim Walburg, and a generator issue

from Emergency Management Director Kody Keefer.

Zoning Officer Mandi Anderson will ask the board to appoint

Board of Adjustment alternates, to consider conditional use

permits for Benjamin Elliott and John Waldman, and variances

for Roger and Roxanne Ellis, and for Brian Kogel.

At 12:30 p.m. Jeff Schaefer from Legislative Audit will

speak with commissioners about the 2016-17 audit. The board

will then go into executive session to consider a personnel

issue.
