The Madison City Commission re-established on Monday a special-maintenance fee for another year to collect revenue that city officials have spent during previous years on maintaining or repairing Madison’s streets.

By state law, the city commissioners need to establish the special-maintenance fee annually. The fee is assessed to property owners who have lots abutting any infrastructure improvements, such as streets, that are maintained by the city.

The city will assess the owner(s) of a lot -- or more than one adjoining lots -- $1 per linear foot for a maximum of 125 feet. Any adjacent lots need to have the same common majority ownership for consideration as a single contiguous parcel.
